Just Some Quick Thoughts...

After taking in this weekend, and today's matches, here's a couple of quick thoughts...

  • Liverpool's brass are brilliant: They off-load a striker who is obviously on the 90-degree down-slope of his career for over $81 million, and turn around and use those funds plus just a little more for two young players, with a tremendous desire to win, and win in Liverpool.  Luis Suarez is playing like he should have cost over $80 mil, and Carroll, who just made his debut this weekend, has said all the right things to win over the Liverpool fans.  They're two integral pieces who will propel Liverpool back into the title picture for years to come.  Chelsea, however, now have another Drogba on their squad, which doesn't do them much good seeing as how they're trying to get rid of the one they already had...

  • The Miami Heat aren't looking so hot:  The Heat have lost 4 straight, including 2, at home, to potential 2nd round opponents, in ugly fashion.  They seem to be showing signs of a late season slump, and don't know how to deal with it.  Well other than crying over it, of course...

  • The NFL has lost their minds:  With all the momentum in the world on their side in the last decade, the NFL has quickly become the Nation's most popular, and profitable sport.  Viewership is up, and so are profits.  And apparently, nobody knows what to do with all of this new-found appeal, except throw it all away.  The looming lock-out will destroy all that they have sought to build over the last several years, and you needn't look far to see how they will come out of it. The NHL has yet to overcome their decision to have a lockout, with the majority of their games being broadcast on the nearly un-findable VS. channel.  It's taken MLB years to rebuild what they lost when they had their strike, but probably stand to benefit the most should the NFL's owners and players come to an agreement.  Personally, I could go a season without the No Fun League...
